In the framework of a field visit to China, we visited the Party School of the Gansu Provincial Committee. In this
visit, a special topic was presented that shed light on China's strategies for poverty alleviation and how to use technology for the development of rural areas.
visit, a special topic was presented that shed light on China's strategies for poverty alleviation and how to use technology for the development of rural areas.At the beginning of the lectures, the great achievements that China has achieved under the "Targeted Poverty Alleviation Strategy" were discussed. It was noted that since 2012, China has been able to rescue nearly 100 million people from poverty and remove the names of 832 counties and 128 thousand villages from the list of poor areas. This experience was introduced as a global model for other countries.
An important part of the lecture was dedicated to the specific experience of Gansu Province in using digital technology. The province launched an advanced system called (One-Click Application) in 2023. This system allows rural residents to send assistance requests or their needs to relevant parties simply by scanning a QR code with their mobile phones.
This digital initiative achieves several main goals:
1. Fast discovery: identifying those families who are at risk of returning to poverty.
2. Immediate response: reducing routine and delivering assistance in the shortest time.
3. Precise monitoring: using data and information like a (thousand-mile eye) to monitor people's livelihood conditions.
During the seminar, seven main principles were discussed that President (Xi Jinping) has formulated for the success of the development process, including: putting the people at the center of priorities, strengthening the socialist system, and following a scientific and precise method for assisting different classes of society.
This visit and these lectures were an important opportunity to understand how China has been able to solve the greatest human problem, which is poverty, in the most difficult areas by combining "strong political leadership" and "modern technology".
